Honey is most often thought to be of a healthy sweetener. But you would be surprised to know that it also has a lot of benefits for the hair and skin as well. Made of the alchemy of the bees gathering pollen, nectar, and resins from different flowers, this powerful ingredient can help in moisturizing fight signs of aging and even bacteria. Also, it is fully loaded with a lot of nutrients, antioxidants, and compounds which help in healing.

So next time whenever you are buying your groceries, pick up raw honey that is not heat treated. It has a lot of active phytonutrient antioxidants as well as enzymes for beauty benefits.

Below are some useful ways of putting this ingredient into usage.

1. A moisturizing mask

Honey is known to be a natural humectant which means that it draws all the moisture from the air into our skin and makes sure that it is retained in the skin where it is needed the most for long-lasting, penetrating hydration.

How to use it- Apply 1 tbsp. raw honey on dry and clean skin and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

2. Pore cleanser

The enzymes that honey contains help in clarifying the skin and keeping the pores absolutely clean and clear. Also, the anti-bacterial properties of this ingredient and coconut oil or jojoba oil help in preventing the buildup of bacteria which may lead to breakouts and imbalances in the skin.

How to use it- Mix 1 tbsp. raw honey into 2 tbsp. coconut or jojoba oil and beat it until the mixture becomes consistent. Apply on dry and clean skin and gently massage in circular motions. Rinse with warm water.

3. Gentle exfoliator

Honey has a lot of enzymes, anti-oxidants as well as other nutrients which help in cleansing, nourishing and hydrating the skin. Meanwhile, baking soda is a very gentle and mild natural exfoliator that helps in removing the dead cells helping new cells to grow for a glowing complexion.

How to use it: Mix 2 tbsp.honey into 1 tbsp. baking soda. Wash your face and gently rub the mixture in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water.

4. Scar fader

Honey is also known to lighten the skin and its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory compounds are quite helpful in decreasing the appearance of scars. It enhances the healing and regeneration of tissues. These properties of honey and olive or coconut oil also help in reviving the cells in the skin. How to use it:  Take 1 tbsp. honey and mix it in 1 tbsp. olive oil or coconut oil. Apply the mixture on the affected portion and gently massage with fingertips in circular motions. Continue massaging for 1- 2 minutes. Keep a hot cloth on the skin and let it stay till it cools down. Repeat it daily for best results.

5. Acne treatment

Honey has got antibacterial as well as antifungal properties which thwart bacteria which lead to breakouts. The anti-inflammatory properties that honey has helped in calming down irritation as well as redness in the skin.

How to use it:  Take some raw honey on a cotton swab and apply it to the affected portion. Let it sit for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.

6. Bath soak

Honey is not only hydrating. The antioxidants that honey has repaired the skin and also help in protecting it against the environmental as well as oxidative damage.

How to use it: Mix 2 tbsp. of honey into 1 cup of hot water and let it dissolve completely. Add the mixture to warm water. Take a bath with water.

7. Cuticle moisturizer

Honey has a lot of enzymes as well as nutrients for nourishing and healing the skin. It is also a natural humectant which means that it draws the moisture into our skin. Coconut oil helps in the conditioning as well as protecting while acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar helps in softening the skin and also balances the pH level for healthy growth.

How to use it: Take 1 tbsp. honey and mix it into 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar and 1 tbsp. coconut oil. Rub the mix over the cuticles and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Rinse off.

8. Hair conditioner

The nutrients and enzymes present in honey give shine to dull hair without adding weight to it. Coconut oil or olive oil penetrates the shaft of hair for conditioning and smoothening the cuticles and giving the strands the perfect luster.

How to use it: Take 1 tbsp. honey and mix into 2 tbsp. coconut oil or olive oil. Apply the mixture to bottom 2/3rd of damp hair beginning from the ends and going up. Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.

9.Shampoo booster

The properties of honey help in regulating and retaining the moisture present in the hair. Also, honey is known to strengthen the hair-follicles for healthy hair growth.

How to use it: Take 1 tbsp. honey and mix it in your shampoo. Wash the hair as normal.

10.Hair highlighter

The enzyme's glucose in raw honey slowly releases Hydrogen Peroxide which is an ingredient for lightening the color of hair.

How to use it: Take 3 tbsp. of honey and mix it into 2 tbsp. water. Apply on clean and damp hair and leave it for 1 hour. Rinse off with water.

11. Treatment for sunburn

Honey helps in restoring the hydration to deepest layers of the skin exposed to the sun. Honey mixed as well as aloe Vera has got strong anti-inflammatory which helps in calming the burnt skin.

How to use it: Take 1 tbsp. honey and mix it in 2 tbsp. aloe-vera gel. Apply the mix to sunburnt skin.
