During the New York Fashion Week earlier this year, fashion designer Monique Lhuillier revealed to a section of the media how her husband, Tom Bugbee proposed to her nearly 20 years back with a ‘cute’ engagement ring. Then they were both in college, she in fashion school. The proposal happened on a busy weekend while they were at a bar. Bugbee produced a tin foil ring, which he called the engagement ring while proposing. Bugbee, who now handles her company’s business affairs, then said, “I know how particular you are so this will do for tonight and we'll go pick out something you love.”Naturally, the tin foil ring has long been replaced but her cute love story proves that when you are with the right man, even a simple ring can be worth more than a precious gemstone engagement ring.
20 years hence, Monique Lhuillierhas created quite a name for herself in the fashion industry. Her wedding dress collection has earned her rave reviews and her LA-based couture fashion brand is regularly churning out the most desirable collections that every bride would want to possess. Now Lhuillieris expanding her horizons and moving out of her comfort zone by creating a lifestyle brand. The brand focuses on dresses appropriate for daytime use. She is also working on a fine jewelry line while also changing her standard runway show from catwalk to a hybrid tableau presentation.
At this year’s New York Fashion Week, she has also officially become an accessories designer after presenting her exclusive and first-ever collection of clutches and shoes. The accessories are expected to hit the market by fall. She told a section of the media how she always wanted to experiment with accessories. The current collection features 23 pairs of evening shoes and six clutches, the price of which range between $595 and $3,995.
