Etsy's New Online Marketplace On the Anvil

The Brooklyn-based e-commerce site Etsy has finalized a plan to launch a new marketplace for manufacturers so that they can directly connect with Etsy sellers. The new manufacturing marketplace is set to be launch sometime later this year, but only in a test form.

The e-commerce site said that it is the marketplace will be open to manufacturers who work with metals and jewelry in Canada and the United States. The marketplace will also be open for manufacturers involved in printing, machining and fabrication, along with apparel and textile.

Etsy, which is known for its business rules, also said that there are certain other subjective terms that have to be followed by the manufacturers. Manufacturers who are committed to provide a “safe and just” workplace and who believe in transparency are welcome onboard. The manufacturers must also align with the company’s continual commitment towards “artistry, craftsmanship and community,” the company said.

Etsy will be launching the marketplace on a test basis and thus the manufacturers’ profiles will not be public until the official launch of the marketplace. The beta version will, as of now, serve as a directory of manufacturers who are keen to work with the Etsy sellers.
